To make smokey eyes easier you should start backward. So first apply a smudge-able black eyeliner and make a V-shape at the outer corner. Take a smudge or small brush and smudge the back all the way to the middle of the eye. Take some black eyeshadow and go over the shape you have just created with the liner.
